The KOGAN Gallery is proud to represent Jorge Martins, one of the greatest modern Portuguese artists.
This Portuguese artist, born in 1940, studied painting and architecture at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. He settled in Paris between 1961 and 1991. His artworks were described by the philosopher Fernando Gil as a « praise of the minimal ». In his very mysterious works of art, either paintings or drawings, he discloses the poetical aspect of a world escaping reality in his very mysterious artworks. Among other places his work was exhibited at the National Art Center Georges Pompidou in Paris in 1978 (« Ateliers Aujourd’hui 5 » with Magdeleine Vessereau) and on many occasions at the Foundation Calouste-Gulbenkian in Lisbon (1983, 1985, 1993, and in 2008 in Paris).
